How to Convert Images to JPG

  1. Click Select Images or drop one or more images onto the box. PNG, WebP, GIF, TIFF and SVG are supported.
  2. Click Convert To JPG.
  3. Save each JPG on its own, or use Download All to save them all.

What Happens During Conversion

Every image is saved as a high-quality JPG at 92% quality, a level where the difference from the original is very hard to see. JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas in PNG, WebP, GIF or SVG files are filled with white. Hidden metadata such as camera details and location is removed from the converted files.

A few formats need a note. An animated GIF becomes a still JPG of its first frame. SVGs are drawn at their own size, or at 1024 x 1024 pixels if the file does not set one. HEIC, RAW and PSD files are not supported yet.

JPG is the right choice for photos you want to share, upload or email, because it makes them much smaller than PNG. Keep PNG for logos, screenshots and anything that needs a transparent background. Our comparison of PNG, JPG and WebP explains the trade-off.

JPG Converter FAQ

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Conversion runs in your browser, so your images stay on your device the whole time.

What happens to transparent backgrounds?

JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white. If you need to keep a transparent background, keep the image as PNG or WebP instead.

Can I convert an animated GIF to JPG?

Yes, but the result is a still image of the first frame, because JPG cannot store animation.

Can I convert HEIC or RAW photos?

Not at the moment. The converter supports PNG, WebP, GIF, TIFF and SVG. On an iPhone, you can make the camera save photos as JPG by choosing Most Compatible under Settings, Camera, Formats.

Will the JPG be smaller than the original?

Usually, especially for photos saved as PNG, which often shrink a lot. A small graphic or an image that is already well compressed can come out larger. To make a JPG smaller still, run it through the image compressor afterwards.
